Christie Rosalyn Christensen Penney, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on December 8, 2025. She was just ten days shy of her 90th birthday. She was born on December 18, 1935 in Fillmore, Utah, to Chris and Rose Christensen. She was raised in nearby Flowell, where she developed the deep family values and work ethic that shaped her life.
Christie attended Millard High School and later married the love of her life, Reid M. Penney, on March 31, 1954. Together they built a life rooted in dedication, family, and community. When Dad established Penney Construction, Mom played a vital role behind the scenes, contributing her many talents to help the business thrive.
A woman of countless gifts, Mom approached every hobby with passion and perfection. Her wedding cakes were legendary works of art, her flaky pie crusts and homemade candies were unmatched. Her danish pastries, cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, and bread were cherished by all who were lucky enough to receive them. Mom loved sharing her creations, and friends often joked that being “on Mom’s list” was the best place to be.
Her creative talents extended beyond the kitchen. Mom was an extraordinary seamstress. If it could be imagined, she could sew it. Friends and neighbors frequently brought over their sewing machines for repair, knowing she would gladly help them. Her generosity and skills were woven into the lives of many.
Some of our fondest memories were made on Sunday drives with Dad and Mom. They were unplanned adventures where the destination was always a surprise, and we both secretly hoped the journey would end at Grandpa and Grandma’s house!
Above all, Mom loved her family fiercely. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She worried about them always offering to help whether it was needed or not. Her strength, devotion, love and constant support were gifts that shaped generations.
Christie is survived by her daughters: Valene Haupt of Fillmore and Janet (Craig) Vorwaller of West Valley; grandchildren: Matt (Patti) Haupt of Fillmore, Jamie Mills of St. George, and Amanda (Devin) Young of West Valley; great-grandchildren: Ashlee (John), Titan, Sienna, Dani and Brielle; and great-great-granddaughter, Winter. She is also survived by her brothers: Robert (Zoe) Christensen of Fillmore, David (Gaye) Christensen of Fillmore, and Stephen (Jeanne) Christensen of Leamington Richard (Kristi) Penney of Kanosh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reid Penney, her parents, Chris and Rose Christensen; her brother Joe (Ada) Christensen; and her sister Mary Em (Edward) Hansen.
Graveside services for friends and family will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Fillmore Cemetery.
Christie will be remembered for her generosity, creativity, unwavering love, and the countless ways she enriched the lives of all who knew her.
