Gregory E Pennington, 74 of Hurricane Utah passed away on August 23rd, 2025, in Fillmore, Utah. He was born In Indianapolis, Indiana on November 23rd, 1950, to Gilbert “Bud” Pennington and Mary “Joan” Taylor Pennington and was the second of eight children. In April 1972 he was married to Marilyn Myler, his first wife of 24 years and with whom he had 8 boys and 2 girls. After the sad passing of Marilyn, Greg was able to find love again and married Jan Fielding in the Timpanogos Temple in February 2004. To which he inherited the title of stepdad to her 11 children.
While growing up in Tustin, California, if Greg wasn’t riding his bike, reading or playing in the orange groves, he was spending countless hours pitching to his brother Mike on and off the baseball field. He graduated from Tustin High School with a “no-hitter record” which remains unbroken to this day. He continued to play minor league baseball in college The Rapid City Chiefs, the LA Dodgers farm team. Greg then attended Saddleback College and earned his Bachelor of Arts at CSU Fullerton and received a Master of Business Administration from University of California Irvine. He spent his career as a manufacturing plant manager in California and Utah, until he retired in 2017 and relocated to Hurricane Utah the same year.
Greg had a myriad of talents, and while the saying goes “jack of all trades, is a master of none” Greg was truly a master of them all. He was a talented artist even as a child, but truly found his niche as life progressed and as he was able to immerse himself in his painting. He was so good that any time he entered his paintings in the local “Peach Days” competition he found himself receiving the highest awards and rosettes. The highest award he received though was the gratitude of his children and grandchildren for the one-of-a-kind masterpieces he made for them, which he did as often as he could. He also loved helping others find this talent in themselves as he taught those who visited him how to paint. Not only was Greg a wonderful artist, he also was an eloquent and thoughtful writer. He spent hours compiling memories, anecdotes and lessons in his Car memories and Plane memories which he sent out to family and friends. He was a connoisseur of learning all he could in every area, but teaching what he knew to those who wanted to learn was his greatest passion. Regardless of age or subject Greg had Christ-like patience when teaching his “student/s”. To the delight of his children Greg recently adopted a new role as “tinkerer”, His “Franken-tools” were loved by all, you really got to see his creativity as he paired and welded the different tools he had together. One of the best and most beloved talents he had was being a caring, devoted, and loving Grandpa. He is the embodiment of Christ as he would spend hours with his grandkids, talking with them, asking them questions, showing them his toys and watching their shows with them etc. He had a special bond with them and cherished those bonds.
Greg’s most important relationship besides his family was with his Savior Jesus Christ, converting to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his early 20’s. His personal mission on earth was to become and do as Christ would. He studied and researched out the scriptures daily and had morning devotionals with his wife Jan. As Nephi 25:26 taught Greg truly ‘talked of Christ, rejoiced in Christ, preached of Christ, and prophesied of Christ’. His days were filled with learning, studying and teaching any who would listen about Christ. He traveled long and far to go to every temple wedding he could. He had a strong and powerful testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. His devotion to his faith was like a lighthouse, unmovable against the crashing waves of life, yet he still shined the light of Christ, providing comfort and knowledge to all those he was in contact with.
Greg is survived by his wife Jan; his sister Laura; brothers Michael, Mark, Tim, Jim and Dave; his daughters Jeni and Jessica and sons Aaron, Philip. Jeff, David, Adam, Matthew and Sam; stepdaughters Cherilyn, Jennifer, Lori and Jillian; stepsons Tristen, Troy, Brent, Shawn, Brian, Greg, and Jonathan; many nieces and nephews, and his cherished 63 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Bud, mother Joan, his loving wife Marilyn, sister Pam, son Jared, grandson Christopher and grandson, PJ.
Greg was loved and will be missed by so many. His clever banter, great knowledge, and love of Christ will not be forgotten. We will hold onto our dear memories, (private or shared) until we are reunited with him once again. We are comforted knowing of the joyous reunions now taking place.
