Ralph Pikyavit

May 1, 1939 — September 25, 2015

Ralph Joseph Pikyavit (aka Red Cloud) of St. George, Utah. He was 76 years old. He was born on the Kanosh Indian Reservation on May 1, 1939. The 4th child out of 10 children (4 brothers and 5 sisters) born to Emily Sobquin & Joseph Pikyavit. He married Hailvinia Bushhead of the Shivwits Band in 1960 and Jolene Yazzie of the Koosharem band in 1970. He had many girl friends throughout the 4 directions.

 

Ralph attended school in Whiterocks, Stewart Board School in Nevada where he played basketball for two years, and ½ year in Millard High. He loved to hunt (deer, rabbits, elk), fish and camp out. He served in the Military for two years. He worked 2 yrs. for the Forest Service in Fishlake and 10 years as a truck driver for UDOT. 1984 he served as the Kanosh Band Chairman. He was well known for his strong voice in singing Native Songs (round dance, salt, etc.) and playing handgame.

 

He has 4 daughters: Corrina Bow of Cedar City, Tina Hamilton of Florida, Nalita Hermansen & Rochelle Pikyavit of St. George. (14) grandchildren: Cam'Ron Pikyavit, Kiara Gamez, Halena Blandford, Jackson & Sky Bow, Edricko Pikyavit, Brandon & Mitchell Hermansen, Marteena Pikyavit, Jalissa, Tekisha, Trinity and Anthony Hamilton (14) Great Grandchildren (2) Brothers Phil Pikyavit (Jeanie), Frank Pikyavit of Kanosh (2) Sisters Vida Preston (Arthur) and Floraine Pikyavit (Jesse) of Washington. Preceded in death by his parents Emily (Sobquin) and Joseph Pikyavit, (2) brothers Mckay & Earl Pikyavit (3) Sisters: Louise Bushhead, Shirley James, Madelan Redfoot.

 

Funeral Arrangements at the Kanosh Band bldg. ½ Night Traditional Sing on Monday, September 28, 2015. Funeral Service at 3 pm on Tuesday 29th followed by an all Night Traditional Sing and Graveside Wednesday Morning at the Kanosh Band Cemetery.
