Saundra Lee Johnson

July 17, 1943 — June 15, 2024

As one who is wiser than me once said, “It is ok to mourn, but remember that our loved ones will never be gone from this world. They live on both through you and everyone they touched in life, like a ripple through time.” Saundra was a magnificent woman. She has left this world a better place. Those that were near her throughout her life and that cared for her at the end of her life are part of the ripple that continues to make the world a better place.”

Saundra Lee Johnson was born to Grant and Christie Larson on July 17, 1943 in Elsinore, Utah. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world the evening of June 15, 2024 where she was surrounded by her loving husband Mel, her daughter Kim, her son in heaven Layne and her grandson Michael. We told stories and reminisced of the good times with her throughout the day and in the quiet of night she found her way home where her loved ones in heaven were waiting for her. She has gone to join her son Layne, her mother and father, brothers, Ballard, Roger and sisters Braunda, Genial, and Marius in heaven. She is survived by her husband Mel Johnson, daughter Kimberly, bonus daughter Jodette, grandchildren Cameron, Michael, and Matthew, Theresa, and Megan.

After graduation from South Sevier High School, Saundra attended College of Southern Utah. There she met her husband Mel. 64 years later their union became a beautiful example of how love can endure all seasons of life and become an eternal testament of true love and commitment. Saundra was a loving wife to Mel Johnson for 62 years. They raised two children and made their home, life and happiness in Las Vegas, Nevada for the next 60 years.

Saundra kept a beautiful home and was a loving and devoted, loving wife and wonderfully loving mother. She enjoyed working with children and made abundant time for not just her own but for many of her children’s friends and extended family members that were in need. She and her husband would welcome them into the home providing comfort, meals, treats and guidance if needed. She loved to throw parties for kids and was notorious in the neighborhood for her many fun filled themed kids parties and gatherings. Every child went home with a craft they had learned to make and a smile of accomplishment. She truly practiced kindness and patience with the innocent. Those children that are now well into adult life mention these memories and how she helped shape their lives to this day.

Saundra was wildly artistic and creative. In her prime she created a variety of highly skilled and award winning sculptures, porcelain doll making, miniatures and was knowledgeable in artistic disciplines of all kinds. She was able to master many creative talents throughout her life and shared her knowledge by taking young people on that journey of learning and craft making.

In 1975 she returned to school and earned her certification in nursing. She devoted her energy and heart for ten years at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. She signed on to work every floor of the hospital so that she could develop an understanding of how to help people in all kinds of need. She was an intuitive caregiver for many people in her life and often gave her heart and care to them in the special way they needed it. She loved and was loved by many people from many different backgrounds and circumstances. Her sweet earthly presence will be missed every day but her much deserved peace will bring comfort to our hearts.
